Rūznāmah-i Mirrīkh was a Qajar-era Persian newspaper published in Tihrān in 1295 of the Hijrī Qamarī calendar, corresponding to 1878 of the Common Era. One of the lesser-known but historically significant periodicals of the Nāṣirī period, it was issued in four-page format and devoted primarily to military affairs, making it a rare specimen of specialist press in nineteenth-century Īrān. The reign of Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh Qājār witnessed the gradual expansion of Persian print culture, and Rūznāmah-i Mirrīkh stands within that tradition as a document of the state’s engagement with military organisation and modern warfare. Its contents offer the researcher a direct window into how military matters were reported, framed, and disseminated to a literate Persian readership at a time when Īrān was navigating complex pressures from Russian and British imperial interests. As a primary source for the study of Qajar military history, press history, and the development of Persian journalism, this facsimile archive is of considerable value to historians of the Middle East, scholars of Iranian studies, and researchers working on the intellectual and political history of the nineteenth-century Islamic world.
یکی از روزنامههای زمان ناصرالدین شاه که بدنبال «روزنامه نظامی علمیه و ادبیّه» به رشته تحریر درآمده، «روزنامه مریخ» است. نمره اول این روزنامه در چهار صفحه به قطع خشتی، با طبع سنگی در دارالطباعه خاصه در ارگ همایون و به خط نستعلیق در دو ستون چاپ و در تاریخ دوشنبه پنجم شهر محرم الحرام سنه ۱۲۹۶ هجری مطابق ۳۰ دسامبر ماه فرانسه ۱۸۷۸ مسیحی منتشر شده است. قیمت سالیانه روزنامه ۹ هزار دینار و در سه قسط بوده است و قیمت اعلان سطری پنج شاهی است. اسم روزنامه (مریخ) با خط درشت در عنوان روزنامه چاپ شده و در دو طرف آن خصوصیات روزنامه درج است. در انتهای صفحه چهارم این جمله: «رئیس کل دارالطباعه و دارالترجمه ممالک محرومه ایران صنیع الدوله محمد حسن» و یا کلمه (محمد حسن) درج است و نیز در هر شماره فهرست مندرجات روزنامه در زیر عنوان آن چاپ شده است.
منظور از تأسیس روزنامه مریخ درج وقایع و تواریخ نظامی و همچنین ضبط برخی مطالب علمی و اموری که انتشار آنها برای اطلاع ایرانیان لازم است بوده چنانچه در شماره اول در زیر عنوان روزنامه مریخ بدین قسم معرفی شده: «این روزنامه مریخ حاوی وقایع رسمیه نظامی عاکر دولت علیه ایران و ترجمه تلگرافهای رسمیه دول و جامع بعضی فصول مرتبطه به انتشار علوم متداوله در فرنگستان و غیره و برخی مطالب که راجع به مدنیت وحقوق انسانیت است میباشد و در ذیل تاریخ قیاصره رومیة الکبری که تاکنون به زبان فارسی ترجمه نشده و در خاتمه جنگ آخر که ما بین دولتین روس و عثمانی رو داده مسطور است.»
