Until now, it was believed that a publication titled “Urdū-yi Humāyūn” was issued during the Nāṣirī era. However, two publications with this name were actually printed and distributed during that period. The first publication, “Rūznāmah-i Urdū-yi Humāyūn”, was issued during Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh’s first journey to Khurāsān, which took place in late 1283 and early 1284 AH. The second publication with this name, which doesn’t have the prefix “Rūznāmah” and is simply called “Urdū-yi Humāyūn”, was printed and distributed during Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh’s second journey to Khurāsān in 1300 AH, of which copies are still available.
Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh published three of his numerous travelogues in the form of newspapers (although they are not actually newspapers, most sources have referred to them as such). The daily reports of these journeys are: one, Rūznāmah-i Ḥakīm al-Mamālik, and the others, Mirʼāt al-Safar and Mishkāt al-Safar. The third and final one is Urdū-yi Humāyūn, which relates to Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh’s second journey to Mashhad. All three publications were prepared using lithography and the printing press that was part of the Shah’s entourage, and were distributed among courtiers. Other individuals could obtain them from the Sarāy-i Amīn al-Mulk. The first issue of Urdū-yi Humāyūn was published in Damāvand on 11th Shaʻbān, and the last issue in Tehran on 12th Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1300 AH, under the supervision of Muḥammad Ḥasan Khān Ṣanīʻ al-Dawlah, totalling twelve issues.
