One of the newspapers of Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh’s time, which was published after “Rūznāmah-i Niẓāmī-i ʻIlmīyah-i va Adabīyah”, is “Rūznāmah-i Mirrīkh”. On Monday the 5th of Muharram 1296 H.Q., the first issue of this paper was published in four pages in quarto size, with lithographic printing on special paper at the Dar al-Tiba’a in the Golestan Palace, in Nasta’liq script, in two columns. The annual price of the newspaper was 9,000 dinars, payable in three instalments, and the price of a single-line advertisement was 5 shahis. The newspaper’s name “Mirrīkh” is printed in bold letters in the newspaper title, and the characteristics of the newspaper are listed on both sides.

The purpose of founding the “Mirrīkh” was to publish events and military dates, as well as record some scientific articles and matters that are necessary to inform Iranians. In the first issue, it was introduced under the title of the “Mirrīkh” in the following manner: “This newspaper Mirrīkh contains official military events of the Iranian government and the translation of official telegrams of foreign governments, and some related chapters on the publication of common sciences in France, etc., and some articles related to civilization and human rights, and at the end is the translation of the Great Roman Caesar’s history, which has not been translated into Persian until now, and the written account of the final war between Russia and the Ottoman Empire.”
