Among the numerous newspapers published since 1267 AH, each focusing exclusively on news, arts, or local matters, undoubtedly one of the most valuable was the Sharaf newspaper, followed by the Sharāfat newspaper. Together, these two publications are renowned in artistic and literary circles as Sharaf va Sharāfat. In addition to chronicling the lives of prominent figures of the era and related news, both newspapers were wholly devoted to art, calligraphy, and painting, with the most famous painters and calligraphers leaving their artistic legacy within their pages.

The Sharaf newspaper belongs to the late Nāṣirī period. The founder and director of Sharaf was Muḥammad Ḥasan Iʻtimād al-Salṭanah, a notable figure of his time. The first issue of Sharaf was published in Muḥarram 1300 AH. The content of Sharaf was entirely dedicated to the biographies of Iranian and non-Iranian dignitaries, politicians, and artists. The most renowned scribe of Sharaf and the most famous nastaʻlīq calligrapher of the entire Qājār era was Mīrzā Muḥammad Riz̤ā Kalhur.

Mīrzā Abū Turāb Khān Ghaffārī Kāshānī, a colonel and the special painter of the Nāṣirī period, and the elder brother of Mīrzā Muḥammad Khān Ghaffārī Kāshānī (known as Kamāl al-Mulk), was the famous and skilled painter for this newspaper. The Sharaf newspaper ceased publication after 87 issues in 1309 AH, in its tenth year of circulation.

After approximately four years of suspension, the Sharaf newspaper changed its name and was republished in the same style and manner under the name Sharāfat newspaper.
