Māhnāmah-i Kāvah was a Persian-language cultural and social periodical published in Munich, Germany, by ʻĀṣimī from 1964 to 2003, spanning a total of one hundred and three issues. The magazine served as a principal forum for Iranian writers and intellectuals in exile, providing a platform for literary essays, cultural commentary, and scholarly articles on Iranian history and civilisation. ʻĀṣimī named his periodical in homage to an earlier journal of the same title published in Berlin between 1916 and 1922 by distinguished Iranian émigré scholars, including Sayyid Ḥasan Taqīʹzādah, ʻAllāmah Muḥammad Qazvīnī, and Muḥammad ʻAlī Jamālzādah — a publication celebrated for its contributions to Iranian studies and antiquarianism. The Munich Kāvah became an indispensable literary journal of the Iranian diaspora during the Pahlavi II era, documenting the intellectual and cultural preoccupations of Iranian communities resident in Europe across four decades.
آقای عاصمی از فروردین ۱۳۴۲ نشریهٔ فرهنگی و اجتماعی کاوه را به زبان فارسی در مونیخ منتشر کرد. این نشریه به ویژه ناشر افکار و آثار نویسندگان پژوهشگران ایرانی شد که در اروپا اقامت داشتند.
آقای عاصمی، چنان که خود در مصاحبهای گفته است، نشریهٔ خود را «کاوه» نامید، برای زنده داشتن یاد نشریه مهمی که نیم قرن پیش از آن برخی ادبای تبعیدی سرشناس ایرانی مانند: سیدحسن تقیزاده، علامه محمد قزوینی، محمدعلی جمالزاده در برلین منتشر میکردند. نشریهای است به زبان فارسی که در برلین چاپ میشد. این مجله از جمله مهمترین منابع پیرامون باستانگرایی در ایران به شمار میآید.
چاپ و نشر کاوه به دو دورهٔ اول و دوم تقسیم میگردد. دورهٔ اول چاپ مجله از ۱۸ ربیعالاول ۱۳۳۴ ه. ق. / ۲۴ ژانویهٔ ۱۹۱۶ آغاز شد و تا شمارهٔ ۱۵ مورخ ۱۸ ذیالقعدهٔ ۱۳۳۷ ه. ق. طول کشید. این دوره مقارن بود با جنگ جهانی اول. در این مدت، کاوه یک نشریهٔ سیاسی بود که بیشتر محتوای آن طرفداری از آلمان و متحدانش (عثمانی، اتریش و بلغارستان) بود. در دورهٔ جدید که از سال ۱۳۳۸ تا ۱۳۴۰ ه. ق.، به طور منظم هر ماه یک شماره منتشر میشد، و با خاتمهٔ جنگ جهانی، کاوه دیدگاه سیاسی خود را رها کرده و محتوایی ادبی – فرهنگی به خود گرفت. در این دوره مقالاتی راجع به ادبیات و تاریخ ایرانباستان درج میکرد.
هزینه ویرایش و چاپ این مجله پیوسته به عهده دولت آلمان بود و این امر هویت یارانه سیاسی/فرهنگی داشت.
