Sangilaj by Fāṭimah Iʻtimādī collects nine Persian radio plays that draw on the history, places and cultural memory of Tihrān. Subjects include traditional courtyard entertainment, Dār al-Funūn, Nawrūz in old Tihrān, a photographic studio, Takīyah-i Dawlat and the Sangilaj neighbourhood. Further plays turn to Murtaẓá Aḥmadī, Nigāristān and the Masʻūdīyah mansion. In her opening remarks, the author describes finding dramatic and humorous possibilities in historical material and developing the work for radio. The scripts use dialogue, character voices and cues for ambient sound and effects to create their settings. The collection includes research by Nīkū Yūsufī, editing by Mahsā Qanbarpūr Sālik Muʻallimī and an introduction by Farhang Jūlāyī. Bringing familiar landmarks together with scenes of everyday interaction, the plays offer an imaginative encounter with the city’s past through a form designed to make people, places and events audible.
