Ḥijāb va rawshanfikrān

In this comprehensive sociological study, Nūshīn Aḥmadī Khurāsānī scrutinises the complex history of Ḥijāb in Īrān and the critical role played by the country's intellectuals in shaping the discourse around women's dress. The work navigates through pivotal historical moments, from the mandatory unveiling (Kashf-i Ḥijāb) enforced by Riz̤ā Shāh to the resurgence of the veil during the 1979 Revolution and its subsequent legal enforcement. Aḥmadī Khurāsānī offers a critique of the intellectual class—both secular and religious—arguing that the politicisation of female attire has frequently come at the expense of women's individual agency and civil rights.
