Sharḥ-i Sūdī bar Gulistān-i Sa‘dī: jild-i avval, mushtamil bar dībāchah va bāb-i avval

The Sharḥ-i Sūdī bar Gulistān-i Saʻdī is a renowned commentary by Muḥammad Afandī, known as Sūdī, on the classical Persian masterpiece Gulistān by Shaykh Muṣliḥ al-Dīn Saʻdī Shīrāzī. While Sūdī’s interpretation has long been valued, its language and style can pose challenges for modern readers. To address this, Ghulāmriḍā Kamālīniyā authored the present three-volume edition to make the Gulistān more accessible. Volume 1 covers the introduction and the first chapter; Volume 2 explores chapters two, three, and four; and Volume 3 completes the work with chapters five through eight. The commentary not only explains the meaning of individual words but also unpacks full expressions and paragraphs for greater clarity. With this structure, the work bridges classical interpretation and contemporary understanding, making one of Persian literature’s most celebrated works available to a wider readership.
