Gazīdah-i dū safarnāmah-i Shīrāz: Vīliyām Frānklīn, Idvārd Iskāt Vārīng

This volume, edited by Farshād Abrīshamī, presents Persian translations of two significant travelogues focusing on the city of Shīrāz during a pivotal era in Iranian history. The work combines the observations of William Francklin, an officer of the East India Company who visited Shīrāz in 1787 during the reign of Jaʻfar Khān Zand, and Edward Scott Waring, who traveled to the city in 1802 during the early Qājār period. These accounts offer valuable primary source material regarding the social, political, and economic conditions of Fārs province and southern Īrān. The narratives provide detailed descriptions of the city's architecture, including the Vakīl Bazaar and the tombs of Ḥāfiẓ and Saʻdī, as well as insights into the customs, administration, and daily life of the inhabitants. By juxtaposing these two perspectives, the book illuminates the transition from the Zand dynasty to Qājār rule and the increasing European interest in the region.
