Dīnāmīt, kamānchah, khvdkār-i jādūyī: qaṭa‘ātī barjā māndah az dirām-i ḥayāt-i farhangī 1280-1380

In Dīnāmīt, kamānchah, khvdkār-i jādūyī, Kāmrān Sipihrān offers a compelling examination of the cultural and intellectual history of Īrān across the twentieth century (1901–2001). Rather than adhering to a strictly political chronology, Sipihrān employs a "forensic" approach, analysing specific cultural artifacts—ranging from the satirical "magic pen" of Jalīl Muḥammad Qulī’zādeh and the stage dramas of the Constitutional Revolution to the cinema of the later Republic—to uncover the latent social tensions and aspirations of the era. The work argues that these "fragments remaining from the drama of cultural life" provide a more nuanced understanding of the modern Iranian experience than traditional historical narratives, effectively bridging the gap between private artistic expression and public political upheaval.
