Awṣāf al-ashrāf: dar ʻirfān-i ʻamalī bih zabān-i Fārsī

Awṣāf al-ashrāf is a classical Persian guide to practical mysticism by Naṣīr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad Ṭūsī. Addressed to seekers concerned with conduct as well as doctrine, it arranges the spiritual journey in six stages. The discussion begins with faith, constancy, intention, truthfulness, sincerity and repentance, then considers discipline, reflection, fear, hope, patience and gratitude. Later sections examine will, longing, love, knowledge, certainty and repose, followed by trust, acceptance, surrender, divine unity and self-annihilation. Brief definitions, Qurʼanic citations and reasoned explanations connect ethical practice with the inner transformation of the traveller. This edition, corrected and introduced by Najafqulī Ḥabībī, presents the treatise with scholarly apparatus, bibliographical references and an index. It offers a structured account of Persian Sufi ethics and the qualities, obstacles and states through which the aspirant advances towards spiritual perfection.
