This edition of Safarnāmah-i Harāt presents a historically significant travelogue written by an anonymous envoy of Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh Qājār. Dating back to 1851 (1267 AH), the text documents a diplomatic and observational mission from Tihrān to Harāt during a volatile period in the shared history of Īrān and Afghanistan. The author records detailed daily accounts of the route, the socio-political climate of the region, and the events surrounding the death of the local ruler, Yār Muḥammad Khān, and the subsequent succession of Ṣayd Muḥammad Khān. Edited by Farshād Abrīshamī and published by Khānah-i Tārīkh va Taṣvīr-i Abrīshamī, this work provides scholars with primary source material regarding Qajar foreign policy, the geopolitical struggle for influence in Harāt, and the condition of the eastern frontiers of Īrān in the mid-19th century.
