Z̤ill al-Sulṭān dar tab‘īd: bāzkhvānī-i asnād-i Vizārat-i Umūr-i Khārijah-i Birītāniyā dar bāb-i Z̤ill al-Sulṭān (1326-1337 Q / 1908-1918 M)

This digital resource presents a critical examination of the later life of Mas‘ūd Mīrzā Z̤ill al-Sulṭān, the eldest son of Nāṣir al-Dīn Shāh Qājār, through the lens of British diplomatic archives. Compiled and translated by Murtaz̤á Nūrā’ī and Ma‘ṣūmah Pazhūhashʹniyā, the work aggregates 172 documents from the British Foreign Office dating from 1908 to 1918 (1326–1337 Lunar Hijri). These records illuminate Z̤ill al-Sulṭān's years in exile, primarily in Nice, France, following the Constitutional Revolution in Īrān. The collection reveals the intricate political maneuvring between the prince and the Allied powers during World War I, detailing his failed attempts to regain the governorship of Iṣfahān or Fārs, his financial disputes regarding confiscated properties, and the strategic reluctance of Great Britain and Russia to facilitate his return due to opposition from the Bakhtiyārī Khāns and Aḥmad Shāh.
