Imārat-i ‘Ajaliyān: ḥukūmatī dar Īrān bih markazīyat-i Sarband va Sharāh

This historical study explores the Imārat-i ‘Ajaliyān, an Arab emirate established by the Banū ‘Ijl tribe in the Jibāl region of Īrān during the early Islamic centuries. Centred in the districts of Sarband and Sharāh (regionally known as Fāʼiqīn) within the modern Ustān-i Markazī, the work investigates the migration of the ‘Ajlid clan, their consolidation of power, and their interactions with the local Persian population, including Zoroastrians and Khurramites. The author, ‘Irfān Sāvaʼī, provides a detailed geographical and historical analysis of the cities of Karaj and Burj, the reign of prominent rulers such as Abū Dulaf al-‘Ijlī, and the eventual decline of the dynasty. Drawing upon primary sources and numismatic evidence, this volume illuminates a significant but often overlooked chapter in the local history of western Īrān and the complexities of Arab-Persian integration under the Caliphate.
